Tyne Bridge Sunset by rephocus Tyne Bridge Sunset by rephocus
Love this city. Reminds me of a design on an old Newcastle United goalkeeper kit, circa 1995...

Taken with a Canon EOS 600D / Canon 17-40 F4L / Nisi ND1000 10-stop filter, exposure was about 2 minutes

SO PLEASED to get a DD for this - many thanks to everyone who viewed, fav'd and sent requests to feature in group galleries - your support is much appreciated :)

The two minute long exposure certainly pays off in Tyne Bridge Sunset! ~rephocus captures the architecture fantastically well, especially with the timing of the day powerfully influencing the overall atmosphere and mood. ( Featured by 3wyl )

How do you get a two minute exposure without pressing the button down on the camera for that long?

There's a few ways;

- remote shutter release; you still have to hold a button but it's more comfortable than using the camera shutter and helps avoid shaking it and causing blurring
- wireless timer, something like a Hahnel Giga T Pro, which allows you to set the shutter duration in seconds, press the button once and sit back until it's finished
- the way I did it; if you have certain Canon cameras there is a custom device firmware called Magic Lantern which unlocks some great features that Canon left out of their firmware such as up to 9-shot HDR bracketing with one shutter press, trap focusing and Bulb mode timer. I used this, I simply put the camera in Manual mode, set the shutter speed to BULB and set the timer in the Magic Lantern firmware to 2 mins.

that last option sounds magical! I have a t4i does that apply then? and how can I get that magic lantern?!

The T4i is the model above my camera (I have the 600D - T3i equivalent) and is not currently supported by Magic Lantern :( sorry

According to the above post, the Magic Lantern is still in Alpha stage for the 650D/T4i but they are working on compatibility.

Ah, my old home. I don't think I've been there and actually seen this bridge, but I've never seen that area look so good.

A wonderful DD
