My Bio
Owner of Rephocus Imaging. All deviations on this page are my own personal work, not those of clients.

I like to draw, I like to take photos, I like to mess about in Photoshop.

I have a serious passion for photography, although I reckon I like the pursuit of images and the process of going out taking photos as much as, if not more than, the creation of the final image.

Further passions of mine are the retouching, recreation, manipulation and restoration of photographs. They may not have turned out right first time, they may have been damaged through age, the shot may have been ruined by people walking into the frame - but that doesn't mean they're beyond saving. I believe that any image has the potential to be amazing, as long as basic technical skills are observed.

It was with great interest that I viewed a recent video posted by Buzzfeed in which four women reacted to being given a professional photoshoot, and extreme makeover via Photoshop. Their unanimous reaction was that they preferred the original "before" photographs, straight out of the camera, showing them as they'd appear in the mirror. My immediate reaction was "Great, more power to them"; after all, a woman who is confident in herself is far more attractive than one who is self-conscious, insecure and obsessed about how she appears to other people. There are a number of reasons for which an individual may choose to use Photoshop or [insert favoured photo editing software here] to edit or manipulate the photos from their camera, and its use is often subject to fierce debate and controversy. National Geographic magazine have made their position on Photoshop clear, stating "We want to see the world through your eyes, not through photo editing tools... If you have digitally added or removed anything, please don't submit the shot" in their submission guidelines. There have been numerous instances of prestigious photography competition winners seeing their pride turn to shame after being disq

First of all, a most gracious thank you to everyone I have had the pleasure of interacting with in the short while since joining DeviantArt. Your positive comments and feedback have been gratefully received and taken on board for my future endeavours. Speaking of future endeavours, one of them is going to be my new website, www.rephocusimaging.com - I've had the concept, the ideas and even the name in my head for a long time, but haven't been able to dedicate the time to realising it until, well, today... My renewed motivation was due to the feedback I've had from my artwork on here and the repeated nudging, cajoling and berating from variou
